#10 Generators

Hey here's a library smiley that I generated - maybe I can make a whole cartoon that moves if I figure out what I'm doing. After having a difficult time with #9 this is refreshing! I played with many generators. Here's a link to Smiley:

#9 Feeding Frenzy

I was able to perform many searches on subjects but have had no luck adding a feed. I was able to add feeds on Blogline but was a little lost when using the other methods. But in the spirit of progress I will now move on to # 10 and come back to this one when I get the chance...

#8 - Learn About RSS

I was able to go right in and set this up - nice & easy. The news reader let me scan and pick - I learned about staph infections in school athletics and about an accident this morning on the Southern State. We're on a weather watch coming from the south. I've just used this in my work or personal life by being up-to-date-to-the-minute. There are feeds from all sorts of agencies and institutions that monitor everything - a big help for my role.

#7 Technology Fun

Since I was a kid, I've always enjoyed recording music. Not only what I like to listen to, but what I write and play. Now technology is so advanced that I can record and manipulate full blown out works digitally and add them to digital video. It's unbelievable to think I used to have to splice tape... I have also exposed my kids to music, video and recording and they are having fun with this stuff - they're not even in their teens yet. Sky's the limit for them it seems...
As far as work is concerned, I use technology most of the day - my PC, digital camera and blackberry.

#6 - Flickr and 3rd Parties

There's not enough time in the day to have fun with all the toys and applications. I searched flickr pictures with "queens library" tags and found 54 to date. I know this about tags - you can give your photos a "tag" which helps you find photos that have something in common- my photo, although tagged, was not coming up in the thumbnail view.

I also played with movie posters, maps, trading cards, photo filers and then I had to stop... I'm off to #7 but will tackle that another day.

My challenge has been met:
I created a free account in Flickr and used a digital camera to capture a few pictures of something around our community libraries. I uploaded these to my Flickr account and tagged at least one of the images “Queens Library” and marked it public. Then I created a post in my blog about my photo. I used Flickr's blog tool to blog and import the picture of a bent telephone pole outside one of our community libraries. This is what I see as I go about my business at each of our locations...

Flickr Exercise

I've now used Flickr and imported two photos. I tried to post a picture of what I see in Library land to this blog and it is not working. I get the blank square and link but not the photo next to the text... It's Friday, 5:26pm and I need to go home... I will return Monday to try again.

On My Way

Well, I've now listened to the tutorial on Lifelong Learning and find playing is the easiest for me - I have mastered that. As for the other 7, I've been on both ends of the stick for each one. Set a goal and follow through as well as have no idea why I'm doing something!

I'm looking forard to using technology more especially since I use digital cameras, have an ipod, have created music, use the Web, recorded on analog tapes and dabbled with media player and the movie function on my camera. I know there is way more out there than I've played with!

The time though - there's never enough but I seem to have found some here so maybe there's a chance!

Count Me In

It took a whole week to get back to this but I have just read through the habits and here I am at what I consider habit 7 1/2. I am playing. Hey that was also Step 1.

I've been here for 15 years in an administrative capacity but found that the resources at QL have come into play mostly every day of my life and that of my family's. Here is yet another resource that will help me grow and learn and hopefully I'll be able to pass some of that knowledge on.

I begin with the goal:
"To learn as much as I can about using new technology"
It may come into play in many ways that I've yet to discover! There's that word play again...
